… in the air and on the water
The architectural office baumraum, Bremen, Northern Germany, is specialized in the planning of experimental constructions on the ground, in the trees and near or on the water.
Since 2003 baumraum plans and realizes inspiring dwellings for children and adults – from small places to play and have fun till exclusive domiciles for permanent use. Their special experience is focused on the planning and realisation of treehouses.
The designs of baumraum are characterised by high and imaginative creative aspiration. Safety and durability of the constructions are important demands. They create individual concepts for private clients, hotels and catering, forest and events.
A major objective thereby is to handle the trees and their surroundings with the utmost care, ensuring their protection and preservation. To fix the treehouses they use neither bolts nor nails, nor any other connections which could injure the trees. They use techniques that do not harm the tree at all - strong textile belts and adjustable steel cables.
As materials mainly they use domestic wood with its excellent characteristics like sustainability, resistance to water and its colour. But even metal, textile and plastic are possible materials for the architects. baumraum combines the creative and constructive expertise of architects with the long-standing experience of landscape architects, tree experts, and established, reputable craftsmen.
The designers are planning their designs in natural or urban environment. Up to now they have realized more than 25 constructions in Europe – Germany, Austria, Italy and in Hungary – but also in Brazil and the USA.
On the webside www.baumraum.de is given a review about all realized treehouses, designs and other projects.
