ELOGICO IN NEW YORK

For a month the Big Apple hosted the platform for the sustainable design

A year after its birth, the international program of research, confrontation and communication on themes of ELOGICO eco-design has got back to US: after Chicago and Venice, the project was hosted in New York, at the Chelsea Art Museum (www.chelseartmuseum.org).

An important occasion of the program in New York was the conference on 17th May, that has seen a confrontation between companies, designers and journalists. During the conference Professor Marco Bettiol, Director of the Research that the Venice International University, Accademic partner of the project, is running for ELOGICO, has presented the first results of the “state of the art” of the companies of the Made in Italy about the sustainability of the products, the productive processes and communication. The first data come out from a sample of 100 companies confirm that the incentive for a sustainable production is given both by motivations of ethical responsibility and the necessity of getting certifications related to an eco-sustainable manufacturing. The adaptation to the new rules and the ethical incentive are therefore the main levers that today lead the companies.

The Designer Josh Owen, Professor at the Philadelphia University, has underlined the central role of the designer in promoting a sustainable manufacturing. Owen has explained how fundamental in the phase of planning can be the theme of sustainability, selecting the materials keeping in consideration their life, the environmental impact of the manufacturing and the product life. An example of this approach is his SOS stool, 100% recyclable, designed for CASAMANIA by Frezza.

The Italian companies that are partners in this project (Alberto Del Biondi Industria del Design, Artemide, Boscarredi, Casamania by Frezza, Creazioni, Haute Material, Horm, Morelato, Moroso, Palazzetti, Valcucine, Vistosi, Zanette) will be protagonist of the SustainabITALY exhibition at the Chelsea Art Museum until 13th June: an exhibition offering an overview of the ELOGICO project since its very beginning and showing some of its products.
